ELF Highlights to move from Five to QUEST

The Football League’s struggling Saturday night highlights show will be screened by low-profile channel Quest from next season.

The official announcement will follow when the presenting team are known and the time of the broadcast, crucial to the show’s success, is agreed.

QUEST is available “free to air” on satellite and Freeview

The highlights have been shown at 9pm on Channel Five for the past three seasons, but the programme has never attracted the audiences expected for such a prime-time slot.

The EFL highlights used to be shown in the graveyard slot after Match of the Day by the BBC, but still brought in one million viewers, double the number watching on Channel Five.

The BBC were said to be interested in regaining the rights, but the EFL have preferred to take the bigger offer from wealthy Liberty Group, who oversee Eurosport and the Discovery channels, as well as the relatively unknown Quest.

Europe bans geo-blocking – but digital media exempt

The European Parliament voted 557 to 89 on Tuesday in favour of a regulation that bans geo-blocking for most types of online content. However some digital media including Netflix and Amazon are exempt.

The move is set to widen access to many online services, including shopping, travel bookings, hotel reservations and car rentals, within the European Union, where many companies continue to use geo-blocking to restrict their content nationally.

However, copyrighted material, including video streaming platforms, computer games and e-books, are exempt, a decision Europe’s primary consumer rights organisations have sharply criticised. The EU is however obliged to assess whether to lift these exemptions in 2020.

Freesat drops a load of music channels

Early this week, free to air music channel VIVA was dropped on Freesat, to be replaced by MTV Love, a pay TV offering.

Then at the end of January, The Box Plus Network withdrew its presence from Freesat, causing viewers to lose access to channels including 4Music.

Other music channels dropped include The Box, Box Hits, Box Upfront, Kerrang, Kiss, Magic, Clubland, Now 90s and Now 80s.

The changes leave Freesat users with a third fewer music channels than a week ago,

However, the channels may have been dropped by Freesat, but they are still able to be accessed, apart from VIVA, should you still want to watch these channels. You simply have to add them to your Freesat box via “non Freesat Mode” / “STB Mode” using the frequencies below:

4Music

Polarisation: Horizontal
Symbol Rate: 22000
FEC: 5/6

The Box, Box Hits, Box Upfront, Kerrang, Kiss, Magic

All frequency information correct as of 02/02/2018. Manually tuned channels will not be automatically updated if frequencies change.
